Sanctuary Dogs
Our sanctuary dogs rely on daily care, comfort, and consistent support. From bedding and food to medical and enrichment needs, every donation directly improves their quality of life.
These dogs are not here by accident.
Each one of them has a story, some came to us through neglect, some through trauma, some through circumstances beyond their control, and some simply because there was nowhere else for them to go. What they all have in common is that they needed more than a typical home could provide.
Our sanctuary is a place for the dogs who don’t fit the traditional system. Some are seniors or hospice cases who deserve to live out their final years in comfort and peace. Some require lifelong medical care. Others have behavioral needs that make them unsafe or unsuitable for adoption, but no less deserving of a safe and stable life.
Here, they are not expected to be anything other than who they are.
We provide structure, safety, and consistent care tailored to each individual dog. They are not placed into situations that set them up to fail, and they are not given up on when they need more time, more understanding, or lifelong support.
Some of the dogs you see here will remain with us for the rest of their lives. Others may become available for adoption under very specific, experienced conditions. Every decision we make is centered around the safety, well-being, and long-term stability of the dog.
Sanctuary work is not easy, and it is not inexpensive, but it is necessary.
These dogs rely entirely on ongoing support to cover their daily care, medical needs, and the environment that keeps them safe. If you choose to sponsor a sanctuary dog, you are directly contributing to their quality of life every single day.
They may not have a place in the traditional system, but they have a place here.

Breed: Yorkshire Terrier (Yorkie)
Age: Senior (Approx 2014)
Sex: Male
Status: Sanctuary Resident (Not Available for Adoption)
🐾 HIS STORY
TT came to us after being labeled as a “problem dog.”
He wasn’t listening.
He “wouldn’t behave.”
Something was “wrong with him.” He "was crazy"
There was nothing wrong with TT, except for the people who owned him.
TT spent the majority of his life confined to a crate. Not trained. Not guided. Not given structure. Just confined.
When dogs are raised like that, it changes how their brain and body function. The behaviors people complain about don’t come out of nowhere, they are created. The human behind the dog is almost ALWAYS the problem.
For TT, that shows up as repetitive circling.
He walks in circles. Sometimes briefly, sometimes more often, and then he’ll go right back to moving normally. This is not something he chose, it’s something that was caused by long-term confinement and lack of proper care.
And after years of living this way, it doesn’t just go away.
TT is not untrainable.
TT was failed by humans not educated on animal behavior or animal anything for that matter.
And now he lives the life he should have had from the beginning.
🐾 PERSONALITY
TT is a gentle, quiet, easy little dog.
He doesn’t ask for much. He doesn’t cause issues. He simply exists peacefully in his environment.
Around here, he’s treated exactly how he should be, a little king.
He enjoys comfort, routine, and a calm space where there is no pressure to “perform” or be something he’s not.
🐾 LIFESTYLE & ROUTINE
TT lives in our senior camper with the other sanctuary dogs.
His days are simple and consistent:
• Soft beds he can curl up inside
• Warm blankets
• A quiet, low-stress environment
• Wet food and soft treats
He moves at his own pace, does his circles when he needs to, and spends the rest of his time resting comfortably.
🐾 MEDICAL & CARE
TT does not have major medical conditions, but he is a senior dog and requires routine care.
His care includes:
• Monthly flea/tick prevention
• Routine deworming
• Ear cleaning and general maintenance
• Senior vitamins
Additional Need:
TT is in need of a dental procedure and will likely require extractions. This is important for his comfort as he ages.
We are seeking sponsorship to help cover the cost of his dental care.
🐾 WHAT TT NEEDS (HIS “LOVES”)
• Soft beds he can nest into
• Warm blankets
• Wet food and soft treats
• A calm, quiet environment
• Ongoing senior care
🐾 WHY HE MATTERS
TT is not here because he’s “difficult.”
He’s here because people failed him early on, and those effects don’t just disappear.
Dogs like TT are often misunderstood and discarded because people expect them to function normally after being raised in completely abnormal conditions.
That’s not how behavior works.
TT doesn’t need to be fixed.
He needed someone to understand what happened to him.
And now he has that.
🐾 SPONSORSHIP
TT’s care is simple, but important, especially as he continues to age.
If you would like to sponsor TT, your support helps provide:
• His dental procedure
• Daily comfort and supplies
• Ongoing senior care
Because for TT, this isn’t about changing who he is…
It’s about making sure the rest of his life is safe, comfortable, and respected. 🐾

Breed: Mixed Breed
Age: Adult (Approx 2023)
Sex: Male
Status: Sanctuary Resident (Medical – Not Available for Adoption)
🐾 HIS STORY
Ollie came to us as a young pup alongside his littermates. One by one, they found homes… but Ollie’s journey took a very different path.
Both Ollie and his sister were born with severely compromised immune systems. What started as Demodex quickly spiraled into something much more serious, chronic skin infections, widespread inflammation, and a body that simply couldn’t fight back the way it should.
They were in and out of the vet constantly, trying every medical approach available.
Nothing worked.
His sister’s condition worsened despite every effort, and heartbreakingly, she did not survive.
Ollie was in the same condition.
At that point, it came down to doing something different.
Through intensive, hands-on care and constant monitoring, Ollie slowly began to respond.
And he made it.
Ollie is here today because he fought through something that most dogs don’t come back from.
But his immune system will never be “normal.”
🐾 PERSONALITY
Ollie is a sweet, easygoing boy who enjoys a calm and predictable life.
He’s not high maintenance in personality, just in care.
He loves:
• Soft beds
• Toys
• Treats (especially wet food)
• Relaxing with his dog friends
He has a gentle presence and does well in a structured, low-stress environment where he can simply be comfortable and enjoy his routine.
🐾 LIFESTYLE & ROUTINE
Ollie lives in a large, structured kennel space with other dogs and does well in a social group setting.
His daily life is simple and consistent:
• Comfortable resting areas
• Time with other dogs
• Regular meals and treats
• Close monitoring to keep his skin healthy
Routine is extremely important for Ollie, as stability plays a big role in keeping his condition under control.
🐾 MEDICAL & CARE
Ollie is a lifelong medical management case due to his severely compromised immune system.
His care includes:
• Bravecto every 3 months (approx. $75 per dose – critical to prevent Demodex flare-ups)
• Ongoing skin monitoring
• Routine parasite prevention
• Basic hygiene and skin care maintenance
Important:
If his preventative care lapses, his condition can return rapidly and aggressively, often within just a few weeks, leading to severe skin breakdown and infection.
Consistency is not optional for Ollie, it is essential.
🐾 WHAT OLLIE NEEDS (HIS “LOVES”)
• Soft, comfortable beds
• Toys and enrichment
• Wet food and treats
• Ongoing medical support
• Skin care supplies
• A clean, stable, low-stress environment
🐾 WHY HE MATTERS
Ollie isn’t here because he’s adoptable.
He’s here because his body needs more than most people can realistically provide.
Dogs like Ollie don’t get second chances in most places.
They’re labeled “too much,” “too expensive,” or “too complicated.”
But Ollie is none of those things.
He’s a dog who survived when he shouldn’t have… and now he simply needs consistency, care, and a place where he doesn’t have to fight anymore.
🐾 SPONSORSHIP
Ollie’s care is ongoing and essential to his quality of life.
If you would like to sponsor Ollie, your support goes directly toward:
• His Bravecto treatments
• Skin and medical care
• Daily comfort and supplies
Because for Ollie, staying healthy isn’t a one-time fix, it’s a lifelong commitment.
And every day he stays comfortable is a day worth fighting for. 🐾

BREED: Mixed Breed
AGE: 11-13-24
STATUS: Sanctuary Resident (Not Available for Adoption at This Time)
TEMPERAMENT:
Tyson is a quiet, independent dog who prefers the company of other dogs over people. He is not social with humans at this time and chooses to keep his distance. Tyson is not aggressive—he simply does not seek out human interaction and is not comfortable being handled, approached, or restrained.
He spends his days lounging, exploring, and existing peacefully within the sanctuary alongside his canine companions.
BACKGROUND:
Tyson came to us as a young dog who had never truly experienced human connection or guidance. Without early socialization or positive interaction with people, he learned to rely on himself and other dogs for comfort and security.
Since arriving, Tyson has been given the time, space, and safety to simply exist without pressure or expectation.
DOG COMPATIBILITY:
✔ Excellent with other dogs
✔ Thrives in a group environment
HUMAN INTERACTION:
🚫 Does not allow handling
🚫 Cannot be caught or approached
🚫 Not a candidate for a traditional home at this time
Tyson is not feral, but he is also not socialized. He will require long-term, hands-off management and understanding of his boundaries.
TRAINING & HANDLING:
Tyson is currently not leash trained, not handleable, and not able to participate in traditional training due to his lack of comfort with people.
IDEAL ENVIRONMENT:
Tyson will remain in a structured sanctuary setting where he is safe, secure, and free to live without the stress of human expectations. He thrives in a natural, dog-centered environment where he can interact freely with other dogs and move at his own pace.
FUTURE CONSIDERATION:
While Tyson is currently a sanctuary resident, we remain open to reassessing him over time. If he begins to show interest in human interaction and progresses in socialization, his status may be reevaluated.
However, Tyson is under no pressure to change. This is his home, and he will remain here for life if that is what is best for him.
SPECIAL NOTES:
Tyson represents the heart of sanctuary work, meeting an animal where they are and giving them a safe place to exist without forcing them to be something they are not.
Whether he remains independent or one day chooses connection, Tyson is already exactly who he needs to be.

BREED: Mixed Breed
AGE: (Estimated DOB: 02/05/2025)
STATUS: Sanctuary Resident (Medical - Not Available for Adoption)
TEMPERAMENT:
Marmaduke is an incredibly sweet, sensitive, and gentle soul who will forever be a “baby” at heart. He is soft-natured, affectionate, and thrives in a calm, predictable environment.
He has a unique personality with specific preferences, he does not like getting his paws wet, is sensitive to changes, and depends heavily on routine and familiarity to feel safe.
MEDICAL & SPECIAL NEEDS:
Marmaduke was born with hydrocephalus (fluid on the brain), which has impacted his development and vision. He is almost completely blind and requires a low-stress environment to remain stable.
Due to his condition:
- He must be kept in a calm, controlled setting
- Stress can trigger neurological episodes, including seizures
- He requires consistent routine and monitoring
Despite his condition, Marmaduke is currently comfortable, stable, and not in pain. He enjoys life in his own way and is closely monitored to ensure his continued well-being.
BACKGROUND:
Marmaduke came to us as a puppy as part of a litter intake. From early on, it was clear he had special needs that would require lifelong care.
He has been raised in a structured sanctuary environment where his routines, preferences, and medical needs are fully understood and managed.
DOG COMPATIBILITY:
✔ Lives peacefully with a small, familiar group of dogs
✔ Enjoys companionship with dogs he knows and trusts
ENVIRONMENT & ROUTINE:
Marmaduke lives in a specialized setup that allows him to move safely between indoor and outdoor spaces at his own pace. He has access to a familiar, secure environment where he can rest comfortably and interact with his trusted companions.
ADOPTION STATUS:
🚫 Not available for adoption
Marmaduke requires a highly controlled, low-stress environment that cannot be replicated in a traditional home setting. Changes in environment, routine, or handling would pose a significant risk to his health and stability.
He is safe, stable, and thriving where he is.
SPECIAL NOTES:
Marmaduke is deeply loved and carefully protected. While his life may look different than most, it is full of comfort, safety, and companionship.
He will remain here, in the place he knows and trusts, for the rest of his life, surrounded by those who understand him and committed to his care every step of the way.

She is the kind of dog who doesn’t ask for attention but deeply appreciates it. Her nature is kind, steady, and incredibly sweet, making her a comforting presence within the sanctuary.
She can be sensitive to loud noises such as storms or sudden booms, likely due to past experiences, and does best in a calm, predictable environment.
BACKGROUND:
Mayday came to us many years ago after being found lying in the weeds just outside the sanctuary fence line. She was emaciated, exhausted, and too scared to move, curled up quietly as if she had nowhere left to go.
Whether she had been dumped nearby or had traveled to find safety, we will never know. What we do know is that she chose to stop here.
She was brought into care, fully vetted, and given the stability she had likely never known. Over time, her true nature showed, a deeply gentle, loving dog who simply needed safety and consistency.

• Senior-friendly diet options
Support for Mayday helps ensure she continues to live comfortably, safely, and with the gentle care she depends on every day.
SPECIAL NOTES:

She found her way here when she had nowhere else to go, and she never left.
This is her home. And she is exactly where she belongs.

BREED: Mixed Breed (Pug/Terrier Mix)
AGE: Estimated 2012
STATUS: Senior Sanctuary Resident (Not Available for Adoption)
TEMPERAMENT:
Little Timmy is a quiet, gentle senior with a calm and observant nature. He carries himself with a soft presence and prefers a slower pace of life, spending his days resting, wandering nearby, and taking in his surroundings.
He is not demanding and does not seek constant attention, but he is comfortable around his people and enjoys simply being near familiar faces. His personality reflects a lifetime of experience, steady, quiet, and resilient.
BACKGROUND:
Many years ago, Little Timmy and his five siblings showed up together along our road. They were not tiny puppies, but they were still young, clearly having already experienced hardship early in life.
All six were in rough condition. They had sores, scabs, and signs of neglect, with some even missing tips of their ears. It was clear they had been surviving on their own for some time.
They were brought into care, treated, and given the stability they had never known. Over time, Little Timmy healed physically and settled into a life of safety and routine.
Now, many years later, he is one of the last remaining from that group, an old soul who has quietly lived out his life here.
DOG COMPATIBILITY:
✔ Appropriate with other dogs
✔ Prefers calm, low-energy companions
HUMAN INTERACTION:
✔ Comfortable with familiar caregivers
✔ Gentle and easy to be around
✔ Not attention-seeking, but quietly affectionate

Focus remains on comfort, stability, and maintaining his quality of life.
IDEAL ENVIRONMENT:
Little Timmy will remain in sanctuary care where he is safe, understood, and able to live at his own pace.
He thrives in a quiet, low-stress setting where his needs are met without pressure and where he can simply enjoy his days in comfort.

He has earned that.

He came from a group of dogs who had clearly known hardship early in life, and yet, he never lost his ability to simply exist gently in the world.
He doesn’t ask for much.
Just safety, comfort, and a place to rest.
And here, he has that.

Name: Jack
Breed: Pug/Terrier Mix
Age: Senior (Approx 2012)
Sex: Male
Status: Sanctuary Resident (Not Available for Adoption)
🐾 HIS STORY
Jack’s story began years ago on a rural country road, where he and his siblings, including his brother, Little Timmy, were found in rough condition.
There were five of them in total. Some were able to go on to homes, while others, like Jack, stayed. They weren’t social, didn’t trust people, and needed time, space, and understanding more than anything else.
Jack found his place here.
He grew up in the sanctuary, learned the routine, and became one of those little dogs that quietly moves through life on his own terms.
Years later, an accident changed everything.
During a kennel breach, Jack was attacked by a much larger dog. The damage was severe, his lower jaw was nearly completely torn away. It was a critical, life-or-death situation.
He was rushed in immediately, stabilized, and taken for emergency surgery.
At the time, euthanasia was recommended due to his age and the severity of the injury.
But Jack wasn’t done living.
He recovered.
He learned how to eat again.
He went right back to moving around like he always had.
And he continued living his life, with the same stubborn, scrappy spirit he’s always had.
🐾 PERSONALITY
Jack is one of those dogs who doesn’t need the spotlight, but he’s always right there.
He can be a little skittish and has never been overly social with people, but over time, he formed a bond, and now he allows gentle handling, being picked up, and quiet affection.
He’s not a cuddler, but he trusts in his own way.
He still has that little “boss energy” in him, even now.
And when it’s time for dinner? He is absolutely first in line.
🐾 LIFESTYLE & ROUTINE
Jack lives in our senior camper with the other sanctuary dogs.
His days are simple, quiet, and comfortable:
• Soft beds
• Warm blankets
• A calm, familiar routine
• Evening wet food (his favorite)
• Soft treats (always appreciated)
He has adapted beautifully to life without a lower jaw and eats well with modified feeding.
🐾 MEDICAL & CARE
Jack’s ongoing care includes:
• Monthly parasite prevention (flea/tick/heartworm)
• Routine deworming
• Ear care and general maintenance
• Soft food diet due to jaw loss
Additional Need:
Jack currently has a large fatty tumor on his leg that needs surgical removal.
It is not cancerous, but it continues to grow and will eventually impact his comfort and mobility.
We are seeking sponsorship to help cover the cost of this procedure so Jack can continue living comfortably through his senior years.
🐾 WHAT JACK NEEDS (HIS “LOVES”)
• Soft food & wet meals
• Soft treats
• Cozy beds
• Blankets
• A quiet, low-stress environment
• Continued medical support as he ages
🐾 WHY HE MATTERS
Jack is not here because he’s easy.
He’s not here because he’s adoptable.
He’s here because his life matters.
Sanctuary dogs like Jack don’t bring in adoption fees.
They don’t have a “purpose” to the outside world.
But to him, his life is everything.
And our job is to make sure that life is safe, comfortable, and respected until the very end.
🐾 SPONSORSHIP
If you would like to help support Jack’s care or contribute toward his tumor removal, your support directly impacts his comfort, his time, and his quality of life.
Because every single day matters to him.

Breed: Jack Russell Terrier
Age: Senior (Approx 2012–2013)
Sex: Female
Status: Sanctuary Resident (Hospice/Medical – Not Available for Adoption)
🐾 HER STORY
Tiki came to us as a young pup after being passed around and ultimately labeled a “bad dog.”
She wasn’t.
She was a high-energy working breed placed into a home that didn’t understand her, didn’t train her, and responded with frustration instead of guidance.
She was punished for behaviors she was never taught how to manage.
When we got her, it was obvious, she had been yelled at, mishandled, and didn’t trust easily.
Thankfully, she was still young.
And she bounced back.
Tiki grew into exactly what she was always meant to be, a bold, spunky, firecracker of a dog with a big personality.
For a time, pound for pound, she was one of the toughest little dogs here. She had no problem picking a fight with dogs ten times her size and standing her ground.
Because of her strong personality, she remained in sanctuary where she could be safely managed and understood.
And she thrived.
In recent years, Tiki was diagnosed with oral melanoma.
The first tumor was large, painful, and attached to her teeth. It was surgically removed along with the affected teeth, and she recovered quickly, back to herself almost immediately.
But this type of cancer is aggressive.
Within weeks, a new tumor appeared in a different location.
And it continues to grow.
We are now facing another surgery to remove the new tumor on her lip so she can remain comfortable for as long as possible.
We know what this diagnosis means.
We also know Tiki is still here, still enjoying life, and still not ready to give up.
So we continue, one step at a time.
🐾 PERSONALITY
Tiki is spunky, bold, and full of attitude, just like a true Jack Russell.
She’s confident, expressive, and has always had that “don’t tell me what to do” personality.
These days, she’s softened into her senior years, but that little spark is still there.
She enjoys comfort, routine, and being treated like the queen she is.
🐾 LIFESTYLE & ROUTINE
Tiki lives in our senior camper where she is kept warm, comfortable, and closely monitored.
Her daily life is simple:
• Soft beds and blankets (she loves to stay covered up)
• A calm, low-stress environment
• Wet food and soft treats (her absolute favorite)
• Close care and monitoring for her condition
She spends her time resting, staying cozy, and enjoying the little things.
🐾 MEDICAL & CARE
Tiki is currently in **active cancer management** for oral melanoma.
Her care includes:
• Pain management as needed
• Soft food diet due to tumor location and prior dental removal
• Routine cleaning and general maintenance
• Comfort-focused care
**Current Need:**
Tiki has developed a new tumor on her lip that is continuing to grow.
We are seeking sponsorship to help cover the cost of surgical removal (approx. $400) so she can remain comfortable and maintain quality of life.
This is not a one-time condition, it is ongoing and aggressive.
Our focus is keeping her comfortable for as long as she continues to enjoy life.
🐾 WHAT TIKI NEEDS (HER “LOVES”)
• Soft food and wet meals
• Treats (she is obsessed)
• Warm blankets (she loves being covered up)
• A quiet, comfortable environment
• Ongoing medical and comfort care
🐾 WHY SHE MATTERS
Tiki is not here because she was a bad dog.
She’s here because she was misunderstood from the start.
High-energy, intelligent dogs placed in the wrong homes often get labeled instead of guided.
That label follows them.
But it doesn’t define them.
Tiki lived her life here as exactly who she is, bold, stubborn, funny, and completely herself.
Now, she’s facing something she can’t fight with attitude alone.
And our job is to make sure she is comfortable, respected, and cared for every step of the way.
🐾 SPONSORSHIP
Tiki’s care is now focused on comfort and managing her cancer.
If you would like to sponsor Tiki, your support helps provide:
• Tumor removal surgery (~$400)
• Ongoing medical care
• Daily comfort and supplies
Because right now, every comfortable day matters.
And she deserves every single one of them. 🐾

Name: Nick
Breed: Mixed Breed
Age: Approx. 2020
Sex: Male
Status: Sanctuary Resident (Not Available for Adoption)
🐾 HIS STORY
Nick was born here after we took in a heavily pregnant mother dog who delivered a large litter shortly after arrival.
From the beginning, something was different.
Their mother showed significant behavioral concerns, including human aggression and dog selectivity, and unfortunately, those traits carried through to her puppies.
We were able to place two of the milder pups with a trusted rescue partner for specialized work. The rest, including Nick, remained.
And here, they stayed.
At Tails of the Forgotten Paws, when we commit to a dog, we commit for life. Dogs like Nick are not given up on, they are understood, managed, and protected.
🐾 BEHAVIOR & TEMPERAMENT
Nick is an incredibly loving, affectionate dog, with the people he knows and trusts.
With his handlers, he is:
• Extremely bonded
• Very affectionate and cuddly
• Engaged, playful, and happy
However, Nick has clear behavioral limitations that must be respected:
• Not safe with strangers – requires slow, controlled introductions over time
• Human selective – will react to unfamiliar people
• Dog selective – can escalate to serious conflict with the wrong match
These are not behaviors that can be placed into a typical home environment.
Nick requires experienced handling, structure, and strict management protocols to ensure safety for both him and others.
🐾 SANCTUARY LIFE
Nick lives safely within our sanctuary environment where his needs are fully understood and managed.
He shares his space with his kennel mate, Mia, his best friend, and the two have a stable, well-matched bond.
Here, Nick thrives because:
• His environment is controlled
• His triggers are known and respected
• He is never placed in situations that set him up to fail
This is where he is safe. This is where he belongs.
🐾 PERSONALITY
With his people, Nick is everything you would want in a dog:
• Loving
• Loyal
• Playful
• Affectionate
• Toy-loving and engaged
He seeks out attention, enjoys interaction, and forms deep bonds with those he trusts.
🐾 LIFESTYLE & ROUTINE
Nick’s daily life includes:
• Structured routine
• Safe playtime
• Enrichment through toys
• Soft bedding and blankets
• Evening wet food (his favorite)
• Soft treats and positive interaction
🐾 MEDICAL & CARE
Nick’s ongoing care includes:
• Monthly flea/tick/heartworm prevention
• Routine deworming
• Ear care and general maintenance
Additional Need:
Nick is in need of a dental procedure, including a full cleaning and likely extractions.
This is an important medical need that will improve his comfort and quality of life, and we are seeking sponsorship to help cover this cost.
🐾 WHAT NICK NEEDS (HIS “LOVES”)
• Soft treats & wet food
• Durable toys
• Soft beds & blankets
• Structured routine
• Experienced handling
• A controlled, low-risk environment
🐾 WHY HE IS SANCTUARY
Nick is not available for adoption.
Not because he isn’t worthy, but because placing him would put him and others at risk.
Sanctuary allows dogs like Nick to live safely, comfortably, and fully, without being forced into environments that don’t match who they are.
🐾 WHY HE MATTERS
Nick is not broken.
He is a dog with limitations, and also a dog with a full heart.
To the people he trusts, he is loving beyond words.
And his life holds just as much value as any other.
🐾 SPONSORSHIP
Nick will remain in our care for life.
If you would like to help support his daily care or contribute toward his dental procedure, your support directly impacts his comfort, health, and quality of life.

Name: Mia
Breed: Mixed Breed
Age: Approx. 2022
Sex: Female (Spayed)
Status: Sanctuary Resident – Conditional Adoption Possible
🐾 HER STORY
Mia came into our care as a young puppy along with her littermates. She was adopted into a home early on, but unfortunately, that placement did not provide the structure, consistency, and experience she needed during her critical developmental stages.
Over time, multiple incidents occurred where Mia was picked up by animal control after escaping the home. During this period, she was also left unspayed, went into heat, and was exposed to an unstable and overwhelming environment.
Eventually, Mia was returned to our care.
When she came back to us, it was clear she had experienced fear and trauma. She was extremely sensitive to loud noises, would cower or urinate when approached suddenly, and showed signs of significant stress around human interaction.
🐾 RECOVERY & GROWTH
Since returning, Mia has made incredible progress.
With time, patience, and consistent care:
• Her fear responses have significantly improved
• She has built trust with her handlers
• She has settled into a stable, predictable routine
Today, Mia is a very different dog than the one who came back to us.
🐾 BEHAVIOR & TEMPERAMENT
Mia is a wonderful, affectionate dog with her people.
• Bonds strongly with her handlers
• Enjoys attention and interaction
• Stable and comfortable in her known environment
With other dogs:
• Gets along well with most dogs
• Has a best friend and kennel mate, Nick
• Will not back down if challenged
Because of her past and learned behaviors, Mia does best with:
• Structure
• Clear boundaries
• Experienced handling
🐾 ADOPTION STATUS
Mia is currently safe in sanctuary, where she continues to thrive.
However, she may be available for adoption under the right conditions.
Her ideal home would require:
• An experienced dog owner (behavior experience strongly preferred)
• A structured, stable environment
• Strict containment (no escape risk)
• Full compliance with veterinary care (vaccines, preventatives)
• Slow, intentional introductions
Mia will not be placed in a first-time dog home.
🐾 PERSONALITY
With her trusted people, Mia is:
• Loving
• Loyal
• Engaging
• Playful
She enjoys her routine and takes comfort in familiar people and surroundings.
🐾 LIFESTYLE & ROUTINE
Mia enjoys:

🐾 HER STORY
Bonnie came to us in 2020 at a time when her future was already decided, she was going to be euthanized due to her behavior with other dogs.
When we heard her story, we stepped in.
Because Bonnie didn’t need to be “fixed.”
She needed to be understood.
Over time, we learned her triggers, her boundaries, and what made her feel safe. Once she was placed in a structured, stable environment where she was no longer set up to fail…
Everything changed.
Bonnie settled.
She found her rhythm.
And she found something even more important, connection.
🐾 PERSONALITY
With people, Bonnie is incredibly gentle, affectionate, and deeply loyal.
She loves:
• Being close to her person
• Soft beds and blankets
• Quiet, relaxed environments
• Gentle attention and affection
She is one of those dogs who forms strong bonds and thrives in calm, predictable settings.
There is a softness to Bonnie that you only see once she feels safe, and when you see it, you understand her completely.
🐾 COMPATIBILITY & BEHAVIOR
Bonnie is not a dog who enjoys interactions with most other dogs.
She is:
• Highly selective
• Not safe with small dogs
• Not appropriate for multi-dog homes
However, once properly matched and given stability - Bonnie has done exceptionally well. We have never had one single problem or issue out of Bonnie.
She shares her space successfully with her kennel mate, Cinch, whom she has formed a strong and consistent bond with.
This is not something that happened by chance, it came from structure, understanding, and setting her up for success.
🐾 LIFESTYLE & ROUTINE
Bonnie thrives in a controlled, structured environment where expectations are clear and consistent.
Her daily life includes:
• Time in a stable kennel environment
• Interaction with her trusted companion, Cinch
• Soft, comfortable resting areas
• Calm, predictable routines
When her environment is stable, Bonnie is stable.
🐾 MEDICAL & CARE
Bonnie is currently battling Masticatory Muscle Myositis (MMM), a extremely painful and progressive autoimmune condition that affects the muscles used for chewing.
This condition requires:
• Ongoing monitoring
• Medical management
• Careful attention to comfort and quality of life
At this time, her long-term prognosis is uncertain.
Our focus is not on time, but on ensuring that every day she has is comfortable, safe, and filled with the things she loves.
🐾 WHAT BONNIE NEEDS (HER “LOVES”)
• Soft, supportive bedding
• A calm, low-stress environment
• Continued medical support
• Nutritious, manageable meals
• Stability and routine
• Time with her trusted companion, Cinch
🐾 WHY SHE MATTERS
Bonnie is here because she didn’t fit the mold.
Not because she was broken, but because she needed something specific that most places can’t provide.
Once she was given that, she didn’t just survive -
She thrived.
And now, as she faces a difficult medical condition, she reminds us why sanctuary matters.
Dogs like Bonnie don’t need perfection.
They need understanding.
They need patience.
They need someone willing to meet them where they are, and stay there with them.
🐾 SPONSORSHIP
Bonnie’s care is ongoing and increasingly important as she navigates MMM.
If you would like to sponsor Bonnie, your support helps provide:
• Medical treatment and monitoring
• Daily care, medications, and comfort
• Soft bedding and supplies
• Nutritional support
• A stable, safe environment
Because for Bonnie, this isn’t about fixing her.
It’s about giving her the comfort, dignity, and love she deserves, every single day. 🐾

BREED: Pit Bull Terrier Mix
AGE / DOB: Approximately 7–8 Years Old (Estimated DOB: 09/15/2018)
STATUS: Sanctuary Resident (Not Available for Adoption)
TEMPERAMENT:
Harley is a bold, expressive, and personality-filled girl who is known for her signature “talking.” She is vocal, grumbly, and full of opinions, but this is simply who she is, not a sign of aggression.
Those who know her understand that Harley’s communication style is part of her charm. Underneath her dramatic personality is an incredibly sweet, loving, and affectionate dog who enjoys comfort, routine, and being part of her environment.
BACKGROUND:
Harley came from a severe neglect situation where she was left outdoors in poor conditions, confined to a muddy kennel with minimal care. A concerned neighbor stepped in to provide food and basic support, which ultimately helped her survive until she was able to come into rescue.
She has been with us ever since and has found safety, stability, and a place where she is fully understood.
DOG COMPATIBILITY:
✔ Selective / Structured introductions required
HUMAN INTERACTION:
✔ Very affectionate with people
✔ Enjoys ALL of the attention
Harley thrives with people who understand her personality and respect her communication style.
TRAINING & BEHAVIOR NOTES:
Harley is not aggressive in the least, she is simply highly vocal and expressive. She “talks,” grumbles, and communicates in ways that can be misunderstood by those unfamiliar with her type of personality.
Because of this, she requires experienced handling and an environment where her behavior will not be misinterpreted.
IDEAL ENVIRONMENT:
Harley will remain in sanctuary care where she is safe, understood, and allowed to be exactly who she is. She enjoys soft beds, treats, and a comfortable routine, and she thrives in an environment where she is not expected to change her natural personality.
NOT A FIT FOR:
🚫 Traditional adoption placement
🚫 Inexperienced handlers
🚫 Environments where vocal behavior may be misunderstood
SPECIAL NOTES:
Harley is what we lovingly call our “boss baby.” She has a big presence, a bigger personality, and absolutely no hesitation about letting you know how she feels.
She is deeply loved, well cared for, and exactly where she belongs. For Harley, sanctuary isn’t a backup plan, it’s her forever.
